How do you plan to get hardwood floors?
Parquet flooring is the covering of the interior floor with a layer of wood. Whether floating parquet, solid wood parquet, solid oak parquet, laminated parquet or engineered parquet, you have the choice of specifying the type of parquet. But after a few years, they end up getting warped, losing their shine and/or damaged to the point of causing unfortunate indoor accidents. In these cases, renovation is necessary, because wood floors repair themselves well. However, it is important to know some simple basic techniques for successful installation of parquet.
Basic tools for planning parquet:
To get a perfect result on the parquet floor, you need:
- Floor sander: Belt and edge sander, both equipped with 3 abrasives with finer grains (40, 80 and 120)
- A triangular scraper or sanding tool.
- Construction vacuum cleaner.
- Hard bottom.
- 200 grit abrasive material.
- Paint roller.
- Full PPE: Noise canceling headphones, mask and goggles.
Land preparation:
Before starting to plan work on the floor, it is necessary to conduct a detailed examination of each board. This first step allows you to quickly detect the presence of small holes that indicate the installation of parasites in your structure. In this case, the boards and joists must be treated individually. Wooden boards that are in very poor condition should be removed immediately, especially if they show signs of rot or moisture. In the same way, if you notice gaps between the parquet floor boards, do not hesitate to connect them in order to improve their aesthetics and prevent dust from getting into them.
Steps to follow to plan a parquet floor:
- Sanding
Choose coarse or coarse grit sandpaper depending on the general condition of the floor to be sanded. Grit 40 is suitable for severely damaged parquet, while higher grit > 100 is generally important for planing almost new parquet. Before starting sanding work, remember to fully ventilate your room and protect yourself. Start sanding in the direction of the floorboards by gently placing the sander on the floor. Remember to progress gradually to avoid digging into the wood. Dust to remove dust and then move on to sanding the edges with an edger. To reach the most inaccessible corners, use a hand scraper or sander with a triangular pad.
- Polishing
Repeat the process as often as necessary, vacuuming between each pass, until you have a completely smooth surface. Apply a layer of primer (solid base) in the direction of the blades. Sand again by hand with a fine 200- grit abrasive to decorate the floor.
After final vacuuming, apply two layers of admixture to protect the floor from damage. For this purpose, use a glazing roller and follow the direction of the blades and the light. Leave to dry, then sand using a very fine abrasive. Then apply a second layer of glaze with a vacuum cleaner. Let it dry, now it is ready
